Hat winner

Tucker Janssen, Tx a friend of the Holtkamp Cattle program. Tucker was quick with his text back to me. I haven't seen Tucker for awhile but while at the Iowa Beef expo we ate supper at the Big Steer restaurant and in the hall way they have a picture of the Shiver steer that won the American Royal Grand steer years ago and Tucker was in the backdrop of that picture. As a younger man I remember when he went down there to help them with that steer and all the big name fitters getting all the others ready and young Tucker put the "smoke" on him and he won. I don't know if I taught him anything but make sure you Run to the Backdrop because pictures can last for awhile.

Lost in the mega book.

The Show Circuit has showed up on a fork lift from the post office. Wow is that book fun to look at if you have the same addiction to this business as I do. However I had a hard time finding my own ad in there and  hopefully you can find it. May have to place a reward if found. The first person to text me the page number of our ad to 319.850.1563 will get a Holtkamp Cattle hat mailed to them.

Cheap tip of the day. Clipping necks.

This tip is for the 95% of us out here clipping without the talent of the best clippers out there. Try this if you have hair but not enough to block in but to much to shave tight and worry about blending in the clipper line. I like using the plastic clipper guard no 1 attached to my clippers. Just clip straight up from the bottom of the neck to the top.Working from the point of the shoulder up to the jaw. Comb and clip this area several times. Any questions call or text me at 319.850.1563
Remember how it looks when its done is what counts not how fast or slow you are doing it. Troy Goretska always said "if clipping was a timed event it would be in the Rodeo"

Cheap tip of the day.

Had a couple of families getting ready for there county fair asking about what soap we use. I really like to use non-ultra Joy from the dollar stores (cost $1). It works great and it's cheap but make sure it's the non-ultra. It leaves no residue and keeps the hair healthy.
The other thing I like to use is the Foamer. Throw in the soap and hook it up to the hose and foam away. I always apply the soap with the Foamer when the hair is dry. It soaps up nice as you scrub and rinse. The Foamer really does save on soap to.

Run for the Backdrop success!

Good times moments after Gina Fisher was named Supreme Champion heifer at the Delaware county fair. Congrats to the entire Romig family Luke, Jim and Martha. These guys came to our Run for the Backdrop sale two years ago and made there first purchase from us. That heifer went on to win the Clayton county fair last year. They are really good people that are great to work with and they are having fun going from years of not much success to two wins in a row. Good people + Good cattle + a little coaching= Fun Times.

Rising Stars success in the making!

Denney Farms , IA Doug and Dan purchased 9 embryos in the Rising Stars sale and they reported that 7 are confirmed pregnant. That's awesome conception and I understand they are even sexed. I'm excited and they are very excited. The most exciting thing is that all 3 of the Jewel eggs took. That means they will have maternal sibs to Predator.

Half of the Ad preview. We are really looking forward to the Run for the Backdrop. Stay tuned for more updates.

Oldie but Goode

Check out this can of Hamm's white foam. Digging around getting ready for the county fair I found this can of foam that has to be atleast 25 years old. I remember when it was cool to have the best fitting supplies of the time. This was before Sullivan Show Supplies and Internet mail ordering. I'm not sure if Hamm's Supply co is still in business yet today but there was a day the were "it".
